About this page

Written by hand

An announcement isn’t in the game files, so each entry is somebody reading Nexon’s post and noting what it said. The link beside it is the post itself. Nexon’s Discord messages can’t be opened without joining, so those link to the server and give the time each went out, in UTC.

Global service only

China (Shengqu) and Taiwan (Gamania) announce their own. The rows with the same mushroom house are Nexon reusing one maintenance banner.

From the files: what the Public Release adds

The client's home badge: a house under a moon, in a ring of flowers

A home of your own. Henesys and Kerning City each get a house behind a gold door, and the client carries 63 pieces to put in one: furniture to sit on, lie on and switch on, storage chests, a crafting station for each of the 6 disciplines and a training dummy. Nothing like it was in the original game.

  • Shade, a level 48 boss in Cabin of the Forsaken, past a hidden door in Niora Hospital.
  • The Caretaker's Ledger: 6 quests from The Circulation Desk, a new room off the Magic Library.
  • 35 new Citizenship quests in 7 story lines, up to Citizen of Honor in both towns.
  • A Frieren collaboration: 30 hair and face coupons and outfit sets, and two staffs that call Frieren or Fern onto the screen.

Scheduled maintenance on 29 October: Classic World v1.1.0, with skill, crafting and Citizenship changes

Every Classic World server came down at 5:00 AM PDT (12:00 PM UTC) on Thursday 29 October for about four hours, planned to end around 9:00 AM PDT (4:00 PM UTC); Nexon marked it complete at 8:54 AM PDT and extended Cash Shop items in inventories by 4 hours. Classic World is now v1.1.0. A player with an outstanding debt can no longer pick up mesos or items other players dropped, though drops from monsters they defeated and certain party quest items still go to them, and Kerning City Party Quest coupons and passes can still be dropped by them. Monsters on Victoria Island drop more items, and Copper Drake, Tortie, Clang and Drake have less HP. Focus raises Accuracy by 5 to 25 where it was 1 to 20, Poison Breath hits for 60 to 90 where it was 50 to 80 and now deals damage at level 10, Thunder Bolt for 50 to 80 where it was 40 to 70, Rush reaches 150 at level 10 as its description says, and the Spear and Polearm Final Attacks absorb up to 15% of Max HP. Rank 1 Woodcrafting turns 100 arrows of one kind into 50 of the other, where 10 made 5. Whispers need level 10, and Citizenship Ranks 4 to 10 take less Contribution, by an amount the notes do not give. The fixes: disconnects for new players on Character Select and after changing channels with Final Attack active, getting stuck in the Free Market, the Mushroom Garden counting as a town so Store Permits and the Lie Detector Test would not work, Cash Shop previews showing Mystery Palette dye, three Halloween Cash items with no icon, Citizenship dailies completing twice in a day, and Mark of the Beta items from before Grand Launch having less Weapon DEF. The Nexon Launcher or Steam needs a restart for the new client.

The 28 October Cash Shop: a Halloween Mystery Fashion Crate and a new round of Mystery Style Coupons

Nexon’s Cash Shop update for 28 October. A Halloween Mystery Fashion Crate, 4,900 NX or 49,000 NX for 11 instead of 53,900, is on sale from 8:00 AM UTC on 28 October until 7:59 AM UTC on 4 November, with sixteen dyeable outfits, among them a Scream Mask, prisoner and mummy suits, a Pumpkin Suit, a Ghost Costume and Gargoyle Wings. Mystery Hair Coupons (5,500 NX) and Mystery Face Coupons (3,500 NX) draw from a new list of styles until 7:59 AM UTC on 11 November; Nexon corrected the post on 28 October to say Cecelia Twist is in the hair list and Rockstar Hair is not. The Founder’s Mystery Fashion Crate and the old list of styles came off sale at 7:59 AM UTC on 28 October, and the Mystery Fashion Crate stays until 4 November.

The Debt System: mesos owed for Real Money Trading, and no trading until they are repaid

Nexon has added a Debt System that takes back mesos from accounts involved in Real Money Trading or in unfair trades, such as trades in mesos or items gained illegitimately. An account in debt gets a pop-up at every login and a ‘Repay Illegal Mesos’ button at the top of the screen, and until the debt is cleared it cannot use a Store Permit or a Hired Merchant, trade items or Cash items, gift from the Cash Shop or drop items. Repaying is done from that button, in a town only, any amount from 1 meso up to what the Item Inventory holds; once the whole debt is paid, the restrictions and the button go. Anyone who thinks a debt is a mistake is pointed at Player Support. The 22 October maintenance notes list it among their changes.

Unscheduled maintenance on 22 October: the Debt System, and party quest passes for new accounts

Every Classic World server came down at 1:00 PM PDT (8:00 PM UTC) on Thursday 22 October for an expected two hours, and Nexon marked the work complete at 2:14 PM PDT. More players arrived after Grand Launch than expected, so it went on optimisations and preventive measures to keep the servers stable. It also added the Debt System, took Green off the colours a Signature Eye Color Coupon offers, and let accounts still under the new-account trade restriction drop Kerning City Party Quest coupons and passes, which they could not before. Cash Shop items in inventories were extended by 2 hours, and the Nexon Launcher or Steam needs a restart for the new client.

The Grand Launch Cash Shop: a Beauty Essentials Pack, a new Mystery Fashion Crate and level-15 megaphones

Nexon’s Cash Shop update for Grand Launch on 21 October. The Beauty Essentials Pack, 5,900 NX instead of 12,500 and once per account, holds a Mystery Fashion Crate, a Mystery Hair Coupon and a Mystery Face Coupon, all untradable. A new Mystery Fashion Crate (3,500 NX, or 35,000 NX for 11) runs until 4 November at 7:59 AM UTC with eighteen dyeable outfits, among them suits, camping gear, race wear and a detective set. Beauty Album Hair and Face Slot Films add a slot each, up to 24, at 20,000 and 16,000 NX. Megaphones, Super Megaphones and Item Megaphones now need level 15 and are cheaper in packs of 3 and 12. Megaphones need level 15 from Grand Launch

From 6:00 PM UTC on 21 October, after Grand Launch, every Megaphone item needs level 15 instead of 10: the Megaphone, the Super Megaphone, the Item Megaphone and the Double Item Megaphone. Megaphones already in an inventory keep level 10. So do the ones a Monthly Essentials or Convenience Essentials Pack exchange coupon is turned in for before Grand Launch, and the ones bought from the Cash Shop before it; a coupon used after it, a Cash Shop purchase after it and an event reward after it give level 15 ones.

Minor patch on 15 October: Korean in beta, Steal fixed, a Maple Administrator in Kerning City

Three hours of maintenance from 8:00 AM PDT (3:00 PM UTC) on Thursday 15 October. Korean is added in beta as a display language beside English and Spanish (Beta), and chat will take only characters those three languages use. Kerning City gets a Maple Administrator and an easier way to its Civic Center. A missed Steal no longer makes drops, steals an item or grants its buff, monsters killed by damage over time stop paying double EXP and drops, bosses stop being knocked back, 100% scrolls work under the Lucky Day effect again, and pets pick up into part-full stacks when the bag is full. Several disconnects are fixed, among them from Arrow Bomb, Poison Breath, trades and storage, and a Store Permit can no longer be opened unseen from Dark Sight. ‘Dr. Betty’s Research on Plant Fossils’ will ask for the 8 samples it really needs, not 20.

Inkwell: Classic World is not a one-to-one remake, and the roadmap waits for MapleStory Fest

Nexon America interviews Hanbyeol Oh, the head of Global MapleStory, known to players as Inkwell. Classic World is meant as a slower, more social second way into MapleStory rather than a copy of the old game, and it will not replay the original update order: Grand Launch brings a piece of content not yet shown, a new boss is in development, and a fuller post-launch roadmap is due at MapleStory Fest in October. The Cash Shop is meant to avoid anything that directly affects stats or growth, and the small Classic World team was hired alongside Global MapleStory’s rather than taken from it.

The Nexon Launcher carries Classic World as a smaller standalone client that cannot be downloaded until that day, so what can be done now is installing the launcher and signing in; on Steam the two games ship as one build, so installing and updating MapleStory now is the pre-download. Steam players also need their Nexon account linked to Steam, which the website’s Account Settings can do today.

Nexon’s Classic World FAQ: both doors open at 11:00 AM PDT, and only NX is shared

Nexon’s answers to the questions it keeps getting. Founder’s Access opens at 11:00 AM PDT on 6 October and Grand Launch at 11:00 AM PDT on 21 October, on the Nexon Launcher and on Steam, with no beta key. NX is the only thing shared with MapleStory: not names, not Maple Points, not MVP status, and Challenger World does not transfer. A ban in one is a ban in both, only one of the two can be open at a time, English is supported with Spanish in beta, macOS and DualSense, DualShock and Xbox controllers are supported, and Founder’s Package items expire unless claimed from the mailbox by 11:59 PM UTC on 30 November.

Steam sells the Zakum Package alone, and cannot upgrade it

Nexon explains the two storefronts. Steam carries the Zakum Package and nothing else, because Steam’s platform policies do not support the upgrade path and Nexon would rather sell one tier than risk duplicate purchases; the Nexon webstore sells all three and is the only place a tier can be moved up before the sale closes. The Zakum Package itself is identical on both, and one purchase on either platform is the whole of it.
